Sètrâ [SE]

Wîllydây Nâmâlî

Kârâwîtân Küpíng Cûmplêng

"Sètrâ" is one of Wîllydây's most complex albums, both in terms of studio production or live performance. All the repertoires on this album are reworked arrangements of the original versions (from the albums: Kâr-Kü-Cû).

The composer blends Gamelan + Metal + Electronica in a balanced proportion, without any clash of tone scales and timbres. This concept is the result of Wîllydây's long-standing experimentation within the Avant-Garde Metal scene: since the album "Mâyít" (2017), or for repertoires of the metal band Axon Breeze (Australia, since 2017).

All pitch elements on this album use the "Nâmâlî : Pèlõg" scale [1 gêmbyâng (register) = 14 precise frequencies], which is a development of the Pelog Jawa (classic) scale. There is also a Rebab Jawa, with an extreme drop tuning (Pèlõg : Jî, Pât) following the first note on the Nâmâlî scale (Pèlõg : Pât). This technical configuration makes the string sound of the Rebab Jawa more elastic, yet heavy and dark.

this release incorporates slow moments of heady dance music inspired by detroit techno and chicago footwork. interspersed with ambient drones that evolve into and devolve from each other.

please use a set of loud speakers and two seperate subwoofers to enjoy the tracks. specifically tracks 5 and 6 rely on accoustic phenomena called oto-accoustic emissions, which are soundwaves generated by the hairs in your inner ear canal vibrating. the frequency will change as u explore different spaces in the room you play these pieces. please enjoy.

Gõg Mâgõg [SE]

Eschatological theories concerning Gog-Magog (גּוֹג וּמָגוֹג) / Ya'juj-Ma'juj (يَأْجُوجُ وَمَأْجُوجُ) are widespread across many religions. Gog-Magog are invariably associated with the enemies of humanity, or even an enemy of God.

This repertoire is the result of the composer's interpretation of various religious texts and historical literature. The key word in the title is "Sêkât", which is explicitly intended to mean a barrier (metal wall or locking gate), built by Alexander the Great / Iskandar Zul-Qarnayn (إسكندر ذو القرنين) to confine Gog-Magog. More specifically, regarding Gog-Magog's struggle to break the world's seal.

The genre of this album is very much 'Techno', reminiscent of the 80s or 90s. The difference is that, throughout, the album uses the "Nâmâlî (Nî Ûrâwrîngâ)" scale, with 44 notes in 1 octave. Several virtual Synthesizer have been retuned to the Nî Ûrâwrîngâ scale.

Pêrâhû Tênggêlâm [SE]

Compositionally, the repertoire on this album uses a Chromatic scale combined with the Jawa scale, although practically it does not involve much Jawa tones. About genre foundations, this work leans towards: Middle East, Kalimantan, Karawitan, and also Melayu. All the instruments are combined according to musical requirements, as intended by the composer.

What you hear on this album is a work that is laden of 'sea' nuances. The non-musical content of this album views the Nusantara (formerly) as a maritime superpower, raising significant questions about the maritime reality (today). The composer frames this interpretation through the lens of irony, whilst also expressing admiration for the existing legends.
