The Cazenave Arty Facts

Meet Etienne and Franck, two zany neighbors residing in an enigmatic district of Bordeaux, known for its eccentric and creative residents.
Their chance meeting took place on the sidewalk of their two apartments, the two friends found themselves browsing the same section of Neil Young, Blue Oyster Cult, and the classic “Nuggets 60s Psychedelic Compilation”. It was the unmistakable appeal of these records, along with the whimsical aura of their neighborhood, that brought them together.
On Sunday afternoons, their modest lounges are transformed into sound sanctuaries. As they spin vinyl of classic rock and psychedelic treasures, the room is set up with two microphones on a drum set and an electric guitar amp.
The 3-minute and 38-second track "Not Givin' Up" takes them on a journey that sounds like Blue Oyster Cult meeting The Creations, Thee Oh Sees, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Pink Floyd on Saturn. Their synchronized head nods and swaying to the music create a surreal connection between them, hearing their 2 heartbeats under a total of 100 bpm.
However, the bond that unites Etienne and Franck goes beyond the classics. Their shared love of Primal Scream's Screamadelica record inspired them to create their own soundscape.

“Ain't So Easy” is their collaborative effort, blending elements of the '60s/70s/80s/90s into a painting of originality: The Who, The Cramps, Beck… It's a testament to their creativity and a break with the ordinary, like the street in which they live.

In a neighborhood known for its particular charm, Etienne and Franck embody the magic.

Through the power of music, they have forged an unbreakable bond that resonates throughout the neighborhood, where creativity knows no bounds, and where the notes of their melodies will likely linger with future tracks. Keep your eyes peeled then!

Life, Death, & Prizes

Fingerless

This is a genre-bending album about, well, life, death, and other prizes. Featuring futuristic sci-fi folk pop about AI and human emotions, medieval-inspired love and death ballads, glam rock stompers about planned obsolescence, and psych freak-outs. Fingerless have been building towards this release since the first single taken off this album, 2019’s ‘Tambourine Addict Who Plays the Drugs.’

Life, Death, & Prizes, Fingerless’ 4th album, is the first to be "properly" recorded in a studio with a full band. Cheeseman’s project started performing as a band (rather than a solo project) back in 2017, and this album is the result of countless jams and performances around Meanjin/Brisbane between 2017 and 2019.

When recording started, Fingerless consisted of a fresh-faced 4 piece band of friends (Marc, Warwick, Jonny, and Zara - two of which were married), and an open world full of possibilities. By the time they had finished recording the final overdubs in early 2021 only 3 members remained (Marc, Warwick, and Jonny) - divorce had shaken the band to its foundations, and of course the brave new post-2020 world was rapidly unfolding in unexpected ways, which caused many delays in finishing the album. After Zara and Jonny split up, Zara moved to Melbourne and has been heavily involved in the preparation of this album from her new home - including recording some final overdubs while she was back in Brisbane on a brief visit. Thankfully Zara and Jonny are still very close friends, and she’ll be joining the band up on stage when they head down to Melbourne for some shows in the near future.
