Harmonic Pathways

Harmonic Pathways evokes the tranquil beauty of Ontario’s lakeside landscapes in Presqu’ile Point, an organic ambient EP shaped by field recordings gathered during a summer camping trip. Gentle waves, distant gulls, and forest ambience weave through layers of Rhodes piano, electric guitar, and synths, anchored by a sparse yet expressive piano motif. Mellow and immersive, each piece captures a different facet of shoreline serenity, offering a quiet reflection of time spent in nature.

Equinox

Equinox by Harmonic Pathways is a contemplative journey through organic ambient soundscapes, capturing the quiet transition from winter to spring. Centred around melodic guitar swells and evolving synthesizer textures, the EP is enriched by original field recordings of soft rain and the calls of chickadees, recorded near Parry Sound, Ontario. Inspired by the subtle warmth emerging beyond the horizon, each track maintains a steady, flowing structure with minimal dynamics, allowing natural textures and harmonic shifts to shape the atmosphere. With its serene, immersive quality, Equinox evokes a sense of renewal, inviting listeners into a moment of quiet reflection.

Ruffled Feathers

Benjamin Shannon

Flightless Birds Take Wing

'Ruffled Feathers' emerged from jam sessions between original flightless birds Marike & Madeleine who invited Meanjin’s drumming superstar Benjamin Shannon along for the ride! The album draws inspiration from various Australian birds, both flightless and otherwise, and channels that inspiration into a diverse yet cohesive collection of jazz, ambient and experimental infused tunes - all completely improvised in the studio, in one session.

Combining field recordings, synths, piano, saxophone, drums and electronics, their sound draws extensively from the diverse musical backgrounds and eclectic talents that Benjamin, Marike & Madeleine each bring to the album to further push the boundaries of their self-proclaimed "Tropical Ambient Bangers" style.

As solo artists, Marike, Madeleine and Benjamin have created audiences throughout Australia as well as internationally through their extensive individual outputs and various collaborations. Ruffled Feathers is a musical celebration of the trio coming together for a brief moment in time in glorious Meanjin.

North of Capricorn

Lite Fails

‘North of Capricorn’ is a pastel postcard from a tropical dream. It is a travelogue created for a time of quarantine, a soothing sound journey for a time of anxiety.

All tracks were made using field recordings collected by Henry Reese on a road trip through North Queensland in December 2019. Revisiting these recordings from isolation in Melbourne, Henry’s tropical journey grew into something weirder and larger than life, a magical realist sketch of a diverse and dark place with a troubling history, where fantasy and reality intersect.

This album is a reflection on how tropical Northern Australia is often misunderstood by southerners. It is also a record designed for relaxation and mental journeying at an uncertain time.

Lite Fails’ debut album ‘The End of the World has Already Happened’ (Flaming Pines, 2020) was a record about fire, created at a time of environmental crisis. ‘North of Capricorn’ is a very different beast.

This is water music.
