I watch too much Youtube. I noticed a common theme in the videos I watch. I decided to make a concept album about it.
Does everything feel weird right now? Why is everything fake? People feel fake. Food is fake, air is fake, the news is fake. Something is off. You can feel it.

I weave these ideas from Youtube into my songs and I like it. It sounds fun and thought-provoking.

At first I thought this was just a funny little thing where I could poke fun at pretentious youtubers. But as I was making this album my perspective shifted. These are after all ordinary people speaking about real things.

And yes, I have noticed. Something really is off. So I started looking again, on youtube, for some theory to understand. Of course I came across Mark Fisher. So I added some of his words into the last song, along with others. The album name is a nod to him along with a reference to the word zeitgeist.

Doctor Messenger

Doctor Messenger is a solo project member of two musical bands and the sound engineer for the legendary Russian singer Dolphin.

His new release, "You Asked to Remind," is out on the Label Cantroll. The album is based on two cartridges from an 8-bit MSX computer. The artist combined their sound with a live drum kit, guitars, and other instruments, inviting backing vocalist Dolphin to collaborate. The result is a distinctive, textured release that straddles dub, trip-hop, and 90s electronica.

"In this album, I realized the idea that retro computers from childhood can sound like interesting and noteworthy synthesizers," says Dmitry, Doctor Messenger.

For those who appreciate tactility and collectible formats, the release is also available on cassette tapes with one additional track.

While the bright sun on the flat roof makes it warmer in the studio where the workshop takes place, sweat does not break out just because of the heat. Prying eyes of the workshop leader, one of my musical heroes, force me to give an answer other than “Don't know, just throw it online.” The fact that four pairs of eyes from the other students are still aimed at me does not help either. So bluff mode turns on. “This will be the first track of a four track EP to be released on March 1. That's my birthday, I think it's a nice date.” pops out. Relieved I breathe. So, given a satisfying answer, my moment is over, up to the next student. “Okay, next week you contacted a mastering engineer and set a date on which you deliver your tracks to him. And I want to see evidence. No, I personally call that guy to check if you really did it.”, I suddenly hear the workshop leader say. Now I have to. Crap…
Well, after years of only working with band music, collaborative projects and remixes, it may also be time for a real solo release. So about nine months later there is “ The Web Weave ... ” A four track EP with instrumental, spacey beats.

Retrospective 08-23 is a compilation of the best tracks from the French project Mr Peel, covering the entire period of creativity: from 2008 to 2023.

Created by Fabien Chiloup, Mr Peel's project is a studio project. He is a multi-instrumentalist, but constantly works with session musicians from everywhere, so each album involves 10 or more people. The guest musicians perform on a variety of instruments: double bass, harmonica, Fender Rhodes, Indian flute, trumpet, Hammond organ, synthesizers and various percussion. The songs feature mostly female vocals in English, but there are also instrumental tracks and songs with male vocals.  

In general, Mr Peel's music can be described as trip-hop with jazz melodies and psychedelic or noir atmosphere. The project is named after the heroine of the English retro series The Avengers, Emma Peel.

Listen tracks from the third official album by the French duo Arom. 

These songs were recorded in 2002-2004. However, the duo broke up and the songs - mastered at the legendary Abbey Road Studios - went into oblivion after a while and were not published. Twenty years later, #LabelCantroll releases two full-lengths: the eponymous Arom and A La Vie. This was made possible thanks to a label listener who spent a year looking for writers, convincing them to officially publish the songs and collecting all the source material. 

Their music is #triphop and #indie pop, created with groovebox and synths, constantly going into different sounds - trip-rock, soul or acid jazz. The main thing is the vocals in French and English, somewhat reminiscent of Björk. The authors of the project are Dominique for the music and Caroline for the vocals. The name Arom is a combination of the letters of the names (cARoline and dOMinique).
