"M offers a multitude of low-flying techno spheres that are frequently obscured by its own translucent exterior shell before revealing intricate acoustic layers" Igloo Mag

" ‘M‘ reveals four everlasting treasures tucked away in subterranean mines. Spread across four tracks, Dr.Nojoke weaves a solid coil of minimal techno cuts, psyched-out micro house and cavernous dub techno." Inverted Audio

Dr.Nojoke's EP "M" features four previously unreleased tracks from over 10 years ago, all of which share the initial letter M.
The 29-minute ride takes listeners through a diverse sonic landscape of associations, while maintaining the unmistakable essence of Dr.Nojoke's signature style.

Of particular note is 'Moimon', a blend of shamanic capoeira chants, drones, electro-techno beats and haunting bass that evokes the intensity of a hidden ritual.
"Mustart" boasts a dark rhythmic drive with immersive textures and, like "Moimon", has been tried and tested in countless performances by Dr.Nojoke in clubs around the world.
Miliplex" and "Mumucu" reflect the deeper minimal-micro CLIKNO style synonymous with the Doctor.
Four tantalising treats for a five-star musical feast.

The artwork, an untitled assemblage by Edouard Tandjaoui, known for his visual work on Dr.Nojoke's Berlin Gamelan album, adds a visual dimension to the sonic artistry.

Post Techno Crisis

Have we really reached a state of « post techno crisis »?
That questioning is legit and would have been legit even ten years earlier. It’s not with words that Frank tends to respond to that question. Rather with his music and through an enhanced discography that has been unfolding Since 2005.

In fact, the same way as very few minimal techno producers did like Villalobos, Murcof, Alva Noto, Burnt Friedman and Jan Jelinek (that he considers as major influences), we believe that Dr.Nojoke invented a whole sub-genre, a whole environment where he, accompanied by his recordings and diverse techniques, is pulling the strings and calling the shots. That’s probably at this point that this kind of music becomes the most interesting, distinct and personal; When the artist is ruling his little world and applying a whole bunch of processes, recipes and rules that he has built and keeps on building and improving every day. This way, he gets to have, at the same time, full control of his machinery and enough space for what is and has to be fortuitous. Those who had the chance to see and hear him playing live would definitely understand what we’re talking about.

Nojoke is a kind of studio operative worker and manic sound collector. Although « Conceptual » wouldn’t be a fine word to describe his music neither, as the concept, if there is one, is wrapped up and shrouded enough to not be heard as the starting point of his works. That’s maybe what we liked at first listen of Frank’s music and what made us want to contact him. This brilliant combination and assimiliation of well digested influences (from minimal and micro to UK breakbeat and dub techno) was unusual, intriguing and very impressive.

And what is coming next is this album « Post Techno Crisis ». It brings another 6 tracks on the table for no less than 50 minutes of micro dub ballads, which hopefully contain a bit of this artists singularity and subtlety.

CLIKNO presents the highly-anticipated Peripherie Remix EP of four tracks from rand's critically acclaimed album "Peripherie'' set to drop on May 26th, 2023.

Featuring remixes by Steevio, Deadbeat, Dr.Nojoke, and Andrea Cichecki, some of the most exciting names in the underground electronic music scene, this limited EP promises to take you on a journey through a spectrum of sounds and emotions.

Steevio kicks off the EP with a groundbreaking remix of "Lucid", marking the first time a remix by this highly regarded artist will appear on vinyl. With his signature style of intricate modular grooves and atmospheric pads, Steevio's remix takes the original to new heights that we are sure to captivate and move you.

Next up is Deadbeat, a veteran of the dub techno scene, with a stunning drone remix of "San Gimignano". His signature use of space and bass is on full display, as he crafts a cavernous and immersive soundscape that is sure to take the listener on a journey through the depths of sound, leaving you lost in its mesmerizing drone.

Dr.Nojoke, known for his experimental and genre-defying productions, transforms “Hoola” into a deep and introspective chill-out tune featuring lush pads and intricate percussion. This remix is perfect for some legendary afterhour sessions.

Rounding out the EP is Andrea Cichecki's ethereal ambient remix of "Siegfried 2.0". This remix captures the essence of the original track while adding an otherworldly dimension with its haunting and immersive sound design.

With this remix EP, CLIKNO once again showcases its commitment to pushing the boundaries of electronic music. All four remixes on this EP are a testament to the exceptional talent of these artists, and we're excited to share their unique visions with the world

Drifting, Almost Falling: "Utilising space, silence, electroacoustic frameworks and tones, rand take minimal piano notes and re-purpose them into a sound world that has an eerie and slightly ominous feel."

Concert Pianist Jan Gerdes and Minimal Techno Producer Dr.Nojoke Join Forces as “rand” to Release Debut Album Peripherie

For four years rand have been working on a fusion of the acoustic and electronic sound worlds and now present their debut album Peripherie, nine tracks on CD, seven on vinyl, recorded live with no overdubs in 2019 at Berlin's Chez-Cherie Studios then mixed and mastered by Andrea Cichecki.
For the recordings, Jan Gerdes had three pianos at his fingertips. The pieces were created partly through improvisational processes during rehearsals, partly based on piano compositions by Jan Gerdes.

In Peripherie, the atmospheres of the tracks are characterized by zones of musical events away from the conventional limelight, in which diffused things happen, musical elements emulsify, clear things dissolve, are covered up or stand abruptly and harshly next to others.
Peripherie focuses on musical edges that blur in a fluid indeterminacy and let sharp lines become a wide ocean; piano and electronics embark on a journey between being free and being lost, between detachment and connection.

rand have released EPs "I" and "II" on Bandcamp, two one-hour music improvisation in the POOLcast series of The POOL Berlin collective and contributed a track to the sampler "I hope this finds you well in these strange times Vol. 4" on the London-based label Nonclassical,
Peripherie represents the next step on the international stage.

9.3. Mental Health Hotline

The German producer and live act Dr.Nojoke impresses on the 'Mental Health Hotline', a tongue-in-cheek EP that - in keeping with the producer's alias - makes some lighthearted references to some serious issues. Opening up the release is the original, a gnarly, twisted, temperamental track that sounds as if it were lifted from a Donato Dozzy and Tin Man collaboration. Moody and minimal, it keeps the listener's attention firmly locked courtesy of a range of swelling beats and unusual samples. A stifling, almost uncomfortable listen, this one will make most sense when the night is enjoying its most trippy moments. '
Nemonuk' is Dr.Nojoke's second original on offer. Again, the ethos here is firmly tied toward a minimal aesthetic and again, the results firmly lean towards a somewhat out-there place. Nonetheless, this is electronica at its most varied and a track that culminates an all-round fascinating EP with considered aplomb.

Kakawawa

Kakawawa, a place created by the imagination.
With this four-track EP, Dr.Nojoke draws a parable between dystopia,
and uncertainty. Music inspired by myths, prophecies and doctrines, and the question of why humanity ignores the obvious dangers approaching us like a storm.
It's dense, rumbling, flashing and waving, but we don't care and hope it dissolves.

"pulsating, hypnotic, danceable, kraut-ish, freaky" - The Partae
thepartae.com/dr-nojoke-releases-an-acoustic-techno-ep-from-the-corona-era-on-clikno

In 2021 CLIKNO celebrates its 5th anniversary and presents with its 10th release a very special acoustic techno EP from Dr.Nojoke entitled “Muaco.

This EP is a child of the Corona crisis. Muaco stands for Music against Corona and deals with the clubless time we are all experiencing.

When Dr.Nojoke picked up his Höfner acoustic guitar during the lockdown in spring he was looking for new inspirations. The recordings led to three brilliant poly-rhythmical tracks for a special trip far off the beaten path.
Dr.Nojoke suggests his EP as much as a way for home-clubbing as well as a listening experience.
We don´t even know, if it is techno or what, but as mostly all parts were created with acoustic guitar you may file it under acoustic techno or guitar techno.
We think it is just great groovy music - pulsating, hypnotic, danceable, kraut-ish, freaky - that should be played everywhere.

AI.
The second output in the MAT editions series on CLIKNO is a bass-heavy affair over four sides by Dr.Nojoke. Separated into the EPs “Anonymity” and “Intimacy”.

The digital world and social media in particular change our perception and behavior; our values and morals undergo a transformation and shift. How much are we still anonymous? How much are we still intimate (with us/with others)? What does anonymity and intimacy mean to us today?

MUSIC.
Dr.Nojoke shows on AI his deeper, darker, bassier and trippier side.
A. Petar Plet Plete is based on a Bulgarian tongue twister. The chant hypnotizes with its layers and endless repetitions over a straight Maurizio-esque groove with melodic percussion in odd time signature. Nivin grooves elegantly with typical Dr.Nojoke clicks and sophisticated loops of a mysterious female voice, whose melody reminds slightly to Kraftwerk’s Man-machine era.
I. EOW and Nuknot are both intimate orgies of thick textures of reverberations and reflections as if space is folding in itself and time is on hold. EOW seduces with a heavy kick-drum groove and a triplet bassline underneath crawling through unconscious memories. Woe! Nuknot is carried by eternal atmospheres, a low end bassline and a repetitious glassy clang, that can drive a crowd into madness - inspired by Moritz von Oswald and Deadbeat. Nuknot ends in an ambient lock groove

ART.
CLIKNO curates artworks from living artists. For MAT ed.02 we are proud to present digital artist Lucas Gutierrez and his work “Your Mesh.sgl”, originally part of the exhibition ▬ Knowledge Of ▬ at Aperto Raum Berlin, 2017. An exhibition and dialogue exploring the term “knowledge” and the manner in which self-studies are structured within contemporary artistic approach.

TEXT.
MAT02 comes with writings to anonymity and intimacy from the Danish philosopher, actress and choreographer Marianne Kjaer Klausen.
