Mikaere

These Ghosts

Growth, a process full of detours and dead ends, but also moments of surprising clarity and grace. The push and pull of moving forward and staying still. And when the metamorphosis is complete, the ghosts of who we were linger whispering.

Mikaere returns with a mesmerizing new EP, These Ghosts, delivering two tracks solidly in the world of deep house with an eye on the hazy and immersive. Vocal fragments, nostalgic piano, off-kilter percussion and rich textures feature heavily on both tracks.

Reflect and keep moving.

Distorted Memories

Drigg

With Distorted Memories, Drigg takes skipping minimal beats and weaves them around emotive atmospheres. Delicate touches and details keep the tracks evolving and moving. The result is both kinetic and contemplative. A fitting soundtrack for a walk through the city, or early morning dancefloors.

The title track is centered around a haunting melody floating in the background, setting a wistful mood. Benevolence picks up where Distorted Memories ends, picking up the pace and pushing interesting rhythmic elements to the front. Rounding out the EP, Mikaere reworks Distorted Memories adding gentle piano lines and burbling synths for a loose, relaxed mood.

We Are Each Other's Heart

Connections form, stretch, strengthen, weaken, twist. But ultimately, remain. Each new day and every experience adds layers and complexity. The colour changes, the weight shifts. But it remains.

Mikaere’s latest release for Sound & Object, We Are Each Other’s Heart, is a single track of deep house. Simple, dreamy and moving. Warm pads, bubbling bass, and crisp drums support a plaintive vocal line.

Dreisam EP

Kopfbahnhof

For their first EP with Sound & Object, Kopfbahnhof deliver an EP of buoyant house. Dreisam EP echoes the river for which it named after… full of life, churning with undercurrents of light and dark.

The title track rides a rough bassline, slowly opening up into a sweeping house track, recalling sunrises at summer open-air parties. Shufflehofer Weizen, again is full of energy and light with a slight breakbeat undercurrent to drive it along. Finally, Mikaere remixes Dreisam into a more understated and atmospheric piece.

Lone Start

The further from the start you are the closer the end feels.

Mikaere returns to Sound & Object bringing more of the wistful deep house he showcased on Passeriform. Lone Start is shaded with the nuances of melancholy, but uplifting undercurrents bubble up at the edges. The tracks feel fluid, organic and unsettled as opposing emotions vie for control. A regretful look back or a hopeful look forward? An end or a beginning?

20 Inches

Annéke Laurent

There are moods you become comfortable in, want to stretch out, and let settle on your skin. Here you could stay.

Over the course of 20 Inches, Annéke Laurent unfurls his tracks. Each lingers in the space, never in a hurry. The EP’s first three tracks offer a smooth meditative approach to deep house. Textures weave around nimble rhythms, elements slide in effortlessly, sustaining enough movement to drive a dance floor and the atmosphere to fit a living room. A remix from Mikaere rounds out the EP, echoing the resonant character set up by Annéke.

Suppose

G.U.A

G.U.A offers up Suppose — 3 gentle contemplative tracks for the second release on Sound & Object. The tracks sit somewhere between house, techno and minimal. The first two tracks build crisp percussive skeletons that let melodies and synth washes to hang over. The third track is a Mikaere remix of the title track — where he adds textures and piano to give a slightly more deep house feel to the original.

Passeriform

For the first EP on Sound & Object, Mikaere brings us two tracks of wistful deep house with Passeriform. The title is a slight alteration of a term used for bird classification, usually referred to as perching birds, and each track named after a bird within this group.

Both tracks are wrapped in a hazy wash, and remind one of time spent watching birds move against a washed out blue sky while the world slips away becoming a barely audible buzzing…
